Premier League duo keen on £20m Championship forward as Portsmouth rivals ready to cash in on…

Pompey 0-1 Bristol City: John Mousinho's post-match reaction

The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey and their Championship rivals.

There is a month to go until the January transfer window and it’s expected to be a busy one at Fratton Park.

Pompey currently occupy a place in the Championship relegation zone following Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Bristol City at PO4.

Anis Mehmeti’s first-half header was enough to condemn the Blues to their sixth defeat in eight games, with that result dropping John Mousinho’s men into the bottom three for the first time this season.

With the upcoming window fast approaching, there is plenty of gossip and speculation already doing the rounds involving Pompey and their Championship rivals.

Here are the latest transfer headlines from around the second-tier.

Premier League duo tracking Watford man

Watford will have a battle to hold onto striker Rocco Vata in the January window, according to reports.

The winger is attracting interest from the Premier League and in Europe after establishing himself as one of the hottest young assets in the Championship.

The Daily Mail have claimed the 20-year-old is on the radar of Fulham and Crystal Palace, while Eintracht Frankfurt and Atalanta are also said to be keen.

The report claims the German and Italian clubs sent scouts to Vicarage Road during the opening weeks of this term, prior to his hamstring injury which was sustained last month.

Although Vata is expected to remain out for another two months, Watford value the young prospect at £20m, with two-and-a-half years still to run on his current deal.

Following his arrival from Celtic in 2024, the winger netted three league goals for the Hornets last term, which included a winner against Pompey last Boxing Day.

After seven goal contributions in the Championship during the 2024-25 campaign, the forward has netted two goals and registered two assists in 10 outings at Vicarage Road this term.

This has led to Watford’s eye-watering price-tag for the Republic of Ireland international, who is now on the radar of some of Europe’s top sides.

Arsenal keen on Blackburn ace

The 17-year-old had been the subject of interest from Arsenal in the summer, who had two bids over £1m knocked back by Rovers.

After progressing through the ranks at Ewood Park, the England youth international was rewarded with a first-team outing in the Carabao Cup in August.

But after Tyjon rejected a new deal to remain in Lancashire earlier in the season, Blackburn have now given the green light for the centre-forward to depart in the upcoming window.

With his current terms set to expire next summer, Pompey Championship rivals are looking to cash in January, with Arsenal ready to reignite their interest.

The Blues face Valerian Ismael’s side at Fratton Park on December 13.
