Liverpool result could lead to brutal Premier League firing with rival manager on the brink

Liverpool got back to winning ways against West Ham United this weekend but the fixtures continue to come thick and fast for Arne Slot's side.

This midweek, it will take on Sunderland at Anfield, and then it travels to Elland Road to take on Leeds United on Saturday. And if it wins at the weekend, Liverpool could force the Yorkshire side into a change of manager.

Last weekend, Leeds fought back from two goals down against Manchester City, only for Phil Foden to score a late winner. And according to The Guardian, head coach Daniel Farke is on the brink as a result of his side's lack of results.

If Leeds loses to Chelsea midweek and then Liverpool at the weekend, senior figures at the club are said to be convinced that this is the right time to change things up.

Firing Farke now would mean his replacement could be settled in ahead of the winter transfer window opening, when Leeds could be active to bring in some reinforcements.

Leeds has lost six of its last seven matches. Currently, it is sitting in the relegation zone with 11 points from 13 games in the Premier League— the same record as West Ham.

Only Burnley (10 points) and Wolves (two points) are in a worse position than Leeds as we approach the half-time mark in the 2025/26 campaign, with Nottingham Forest slightly ahead on 12 points.

"There were so many setbacks in the first half, and we changed that at half-time," Farke said after his side's defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

"We had the same principles in our pressing against the ball, but I was not really happy with our execution — this was way better in the second half.

"The game was open in the last minutes, I think both teams could have won it.

"Of course, Manchester City are a side full of superstars and full of class, and one moment of magic from Phil Foden with a great finish is the decisive moment for them.

"Real heartbreak and unlucky for my players, but they should take lots of pride and lots of confidence out of it, especially the second-half performance.

"We are disappointed because we didn't come here for warm words or compliments; we came here wanting to win some points. So the overriding feeling right now is disappointment.

"But after so many sucker punches and you're against such a good side, then to show such a performance should give us lots of belief."
