The Boston Celtics are on a roll, as they have won six of their past eight games to push their record to 11-9 through their first 20 games. And yet, they aren’t close to being the hottest team in the league. That would be the Oklahoma City Thunder, who have caught the full attention of Celtics legend Paul Pierce. After winning the 2025 NBA Finals, the Thunder have returned this season and won 20 of their first 21 games. That includes an ongoing 12-game win streak, and it’s worth noting that much of this has been done without Jalen Williams, who has only played in two games this year. Much of the team’s success is due to the stellar play of the reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. There may not be a more consistent scorer in the league than Gilgeous-Alexander right now, and if you ask Pierce, he claims the superstar guard is reminding him of none other than Michael Jordan. “You just can’t stop him,” Pierce said on “No Fouls Given.” “He’s starting to give me that Jordan presence, seriously. I’m looking like, ‘Alright, he gonna get 30. You can clock 30.’ We had Kobe, LeBron, KD, and they’ll have big nights, but this dude is consistent 30s.” Comparing anyone to Jordan is a bit of a risky move, but it’s not hard to see where Pierce is coming from. Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging over 30 points per game for the fourth-straight season, but he also finds a way to make winning plays in just about every facet of the game. Story continues below advertisement Gilgeous-Alexander has a long way to go until he can truly earn this comparison to Jordan, but with Oklahoma City looking unstoppable right now, there’s a chance Pierce could be onto something. As for the Celtics, they will return to action on Tuesday night for a clash with the New York Knicks.
