Leeds United are looking to rebound from a frustrating defeat in their last Premier League outing against Manchester City. They were beaten 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium after a last-gasp goal from Phil Foden.

The attention now turns quickly to a significant test, as Daniel Farke's side prepare to host Chelsea at Elland Road on Wednesday evening. The Blues were impressive in their 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday, having gone down to 10 men in the first half after a red card for Moises Caicedo.

Here is a recap of the latest Leeds news ahead of the game.

City goal questioned

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher confirmed that an official error occurred in the build-up to Manchester City's second goal against Leeds. He stated that the assistant referee wrongly failed to flag Phil Foden for an offside position before his shot led to the corner.

Gallagher explained that the video assistant referee was unable to intervene on the clear offside decision despite the mistake. VAR protocol only permits intervention for goals, red cards, penalties, or mistaken identity, meaning it could not rule on the play leading only to the corner.

Manager Daniel Farke expressed strong unhappiness with the opposing goalkeeper's conduct during the Manchester City game. Farke alleged that the keeper simulated an injury to force a tactical timeout when Leeds had put the hosts under significant pressure.

The controversy surrounding the second Man City goal also involves the challenge on Leeds goalkeeper, Lucas Perri . Pundit Jay Bothroyd argued that Bernardo Silva fouled Perri in the build-up to the goal, despite VAR clearing the challenge as fair.

Team news for Chelsea clash

Leeds are facing a fresh injury concern with winger Daniel James due to a hamstring issue sustained during the Manchester City defeat. This setback compounds previous injury troubles the Welshman has faced over the past nine months.

The midfield resources have been further depleted as Sean Longstaff has been ruled out of action for an extended period. The influential player is expected to be sidelined for at least one month due to a calf injury.

Chelsea's squad sees a potential boost for the fixture as star attacking player Cole Palmer could make his return to the matchday squad. Palmer has been sidelined since September with groin issues and a broken toe, but may feature at Elland Road.

Chelsea will be without one of their most influential midfielders for the trip to Elland Road this week. Moises Caicedo is suspended after receiving a red card for a studs-up challenge during the Blues’ recent 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
