Opinion: Everton should recall Isaac Heath after latest development at Accrington Stanley

Isaac Heath is a really promising young winger on Everton’s books.

David Moyes handed Isaac Heath opportunities in pre-season, and the 21-year-old winger really caught the eye.

So, rather than another season with the under-21s, Moyes and his recruitment team decided it was best for Heath to go out on loan to the Football League.

The 2004-born joined League Two outfit Accrington Stanley and has made a really bright start to the season.

Accrington fans have been blown away by Heath and are convinced he will become a top player in the future.

Now, a fresh development should encourage Everton to recall him in the January transfer window.

Everton loanee Isaac Heath wins Player of the Month at Accrington Stanley

Heath has already registered eight goal involvements in 15 games for Accrington this season, which is pretty remarkable considering he’s in a 17th-placed side.

The Everton loanee has just been named Accrington’s Player of the Month for November, so it’s become quite apparent he’s probably too good for that level.

It’s harsh on Accrington, but the Toffees should recall Heath in January and send him on loan to a higher division, as it’d be more beneficial for his development.

Perhaps a move to a League One club would be the ideal next step for Heath, with fellow Everton under-21 teammates Martin Sherif and Tyler Onyango plying their trade in that division with Rotherham and Stockport County, respectively.

If Heath is to become a future first-teamer at Everton, he’ll need to prove his worth in the third tier and then the Championship first.

Accrington manager John Doolan impressed by Heath

Heath has quickly won over the trust of his manager John Doolan, which is not always easy to do when you’re a young player joining a football league club on loan.

Doolan recently said: “[He is] Quality… he’s learning all the time… he’s just learning his trade, he’s come out on his first loan, he’s excited everyone in all of the games he’s played.”

There is a counterargument that Everton should consider, and that’s whether it’d actually be wise to cut short his loan, considering he’s doing so well.

If he were to leave Accrington for a League One club, there is a risk that he may find himself on the bench there and go backwards if anything.

So there are certainly pros and cons with whichever decision the Toffees decide to make.
