Liverpool are believed to be planning a £52.7m offer for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, as they look to add further depth to their squad.
The Reds have struggled in midfield this season, with the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister struggling to hit the heights of the Premier League title-winning campaign last time around.
While other areas of the pitch still feel more important to strengthen, from centre-back to wide attacking areas, it could be that reinforcements are also looked at in the middle of the park.
According to a new report from Caught Offside, Liverpool are “expected to table” an offer of £52.7m for Camavinga, as they look to prise him away for Madrid in 2026.
The Frenchman has struggled to be a regular starter under Xabi Alonso, and it is claimed that “internal discussions have taken place about his long-term role at the club”, due to his “place in the pecking order” coming “under scrutiny.”
Camavinga could bring improved balance to Liverpool’s midfield
Camavinga is a superb young player who has already achieved so much in his career, breaking Liverpool hearts by winning the 2022 Champions League final with Madrid.
The 23-year-old brings both technical ability and defensive nous to the midfield, and can also do a job at left-back, with Carlo Ancelotti a huge admirer when they worked together, saying:
“He’s a player with extraordinary qualities. He can play anywhere on the pitch, he’s special. He can play as a midfielder, or as a defender.”
It seems strange that Alonso doesn’t appear to rate Camavinga as highly as his predecessor, but Liverpool should be looking to take advantage of the situation.
Extra midfield depth would be welcome next summer, with the Madrid ace young enough to improve further and having the defensive expertise to make the Reds harder to play through than they have been this season.
Camavinga could still stay at Madrid, even though he has only started a combined tally of five games in La Liga and the Champions League this season, but he stands out as a great option for Liverpool if he is allowed to leave.
