'Huge' new padel centre with championship-level courts opening in Liverpool
Food vendors and a merchandise seller stationed outside Anfield on match days could be moved from their spots due to major redevelopment work around the ground.
Earlier this year, Liverpool Council announced £5m in funding to go towards a wider regeneration project known as Anfield Spatial Regeneration Framework (SRF).
The scheme will support matchday operations and integrate with other ongoing projects in the area. The proposals cover Walton Breck Road, Oakfield Road, Pulford Street, Back Rockfield Road, and Gilman Street, with a view to enhancing the area’s appearance, safety, and accessibility.
New city council documents have revealed that three sellers may now have to be relocated as part of the work surrounding the stadium footprint. The area surrounding LFC’s stadium contains what are known as consented streets which allow for stalls to operate.
On home match days there are currently 50 match day traders that sell hot food and football merchandise. This has increased from 41 since September this year.
Later this week, the local authority’s street trading sub-committee will be asked to sign off on plans to accept no new application to operate stalls outside the ground on match days. These are granted on a yearly basis.
However, temporary consents up to five days will be granted for non-sporting events including summer concerts where merchandise is sold. The permits for two of the 50 game day traders could be withdrawn due to the work in Anfield according to committee papers.
One of these is a food trailer operating on the junction of Walton Breck Road/Wylva Road near where a new mini roundabout is being installed. The committee documents set out how the trader has indicated that they would decrease the size of their trading unit and purchase a new unit if they can continue to operate in this location.
Another trader operating on the Skerries Road junction faces having their permit revoked. This is due to planters being installed at the location.
A decision is due to be made on that permit which could be retained as the trader does not operate with a vehicle and could remain in place. However, one trader that will definitely have to move is the operator located on Townson Street.
The area is due to change to a residents only parking scheme meaning the existing food truck which sells hot and cold items on matchday can no longer operate on site.
The committee will meet on Thursday, December 4 to confirm the status of the traders’ permits outside the stadium.
