Kevin Durant of the Houston Rockets has proven to be one of the most consistent scoring players in NBA history, even in his 18th season.
The name Kevin Durant sparks a lot of opinions across the basketball world. Some might critique him for his move to Golden State or his social media presence, but one thing is clear about his career: consistency.Over the course of his 18-year career, Durant has proven to be one of the most consistent players in NBA history, now doing the sameon the Houston Rockets at age 37.
While most recently Durant did miss two games against both of his former teams in the Warriors and Phoenix Suns with whatwas reported as a ‘family matter‘the two-time Finals MVP is now inching closer and closer to history. Along with his numerous other career accolades, Durant is about to jump multiple Hall of Fame players on the all-time lists of scoring, field goals, and made three-pointers.
Writing for NBA.com, Jeff Case highlighted just how close Durant is toonce again moving upon the all-time ranks.

TheNBA’s all-time scoring list is likely the most prestigious of the bunch, with LeBron James most recently taking the points crown from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 2023. WhileJames’ 40,000+ points mark might never be beaten, Durant is closing in a bit further down the list.
Per Case, Durant is less than 500 points away from passing WiltChamberlain’s spot as sixth on the all-time points list.
“Kevin Durant enters December needing 480 points to pass Wilt Chamberlain (31,419) and claim the No. 7 spot on the all-time scoring list,”Case wrote. “Once he does that, hewon’t be far off from the No. 6 spot (Dirk Nowitzki) this season, ashe’ll need 621 more points to surpass Nowitzki.”
Durant has acareer-scoring average of 27.2 points per game, thesixth highest in basketball history. Across his 18 NBA seasons, Durant has only averaged less than 25 points per game twice, first in his rookie season, as wellas thiscurrent Rockets year.
It’s hard to point to another player in league history who appears to score from anywhere on the court with ease. His6’11”frame certainly helps, but in an era of the league playing with and against some of the other all-time greats, Durant continues to stand out as one of the best scorers in the history of the game.
3-Pointers and Field Goals Made

Scoring-wise, Durant has neverbeen known as a three-point monster compared to Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, or Damian Lillard. But what might surprise some people is that he is closing in on becoming one of the ten most prolific three-point shooters in NBA history.
“Durant has 2,215 career 3-pointers, good enough for No. 12 on the all-time list,”Case wrote. “He’s more than capable of entering the Top 10 in this category as well and needs four 3-pointers to surpass Jamal Crawford (2,221) for No. 12 and 65 3-pointers this month to surpass Jason Terry (2,282) for No. 11. Once he passes Terry, he will be just nine away from passing Vince Carter (2,290) for No. 10.”
Again, you think three-pointers, and you think Curry, Thompson, Lillard, Reggie Miller, and Ray Allen, not Durant. Yes,he’s still behind those five and will almost certainly never become first on this list, but just like the overall scoring, Durant has been consistently making shots from deep with ease.
Additionally, going back to overall scoring, Durant is close to moving up on the field goals made and attempted list.
“In terms of field goals made, Durant needs 82 more this month to pass Hakeem Olajuwon (10,749) for No. 10 in that category,”Case added. “He’s also moving up in field goal attempts and is 88 away from passing Carter (21,339) for No. 13 and 338 from passing Dominique Wilkins (21,589) for No. 12.”
All of that goes to show the longevity and consistency throughDurant’s career. Some might not consider him an all-time great because of his career moves, butjust based on the numbers, it is hard to deny his inevitability.
Rockets Meeting High Expectations

Durant’s latest career move, which could have been another mark of controversy and criticism, washimbeing traded to the Rockets over the summer. But so far, the team has met expectations, and it looks like one of the few franchises with the chance to knock off the title-favorite Oklahoma City Thunder.
Amen Thompson hastaken a leap, averaging 16.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game while sharing playmaking duties with Reed Sheppard, who has had a strong run of his own over the past month. But Thompson also holds an outstretched role on defense, and continues to be one of thebiggestpests for opposing stars.
Alperen Sengun has also been as-advertised afterhis run in the 2025 EuroBasket Tournament. He’s dropping 22.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 6.9 assists a night, in line for his second All-Star appearance.
Houston’s also gottenmajor help from Jabari Smith, Sheppard, Tari Eason, and Steven Adams, all of whom are contributing to their 13-4 record.
But thenthere’s Durant. He missed two games for an unspecified reason, but thathasn’t stopped his consistency. His scoring is a bit down compared to years past, but he now has young stars alongside him to take a bigger offensive workload.
The Rockets look dangerousand have multiple proven and rising stars who can go on a run at anygiven point, all while Durant continues to climb the all-time ranks.
