Mason Williams, a three-star point guard out of Millington (TN) Tennessee Collegiate Academy, has decommitted from Jackson State, he told 247Sports on Monday.

Williams is the son of current Jackson State head coach and former NBA All-Star Mo Williams.

"Playing for my dad is something I wanted to do, but we've come to the conclusion that that's not the best thing for me at the moment," Williams told 247Sports. "So, I've chosen to reopen my recruitment and believe in myself and my work."

In Dallas (TX) over the weekend, Williams had a huge weekend playing against some of the top teams in the country.

In two games against Prolific Prep (FL) and Melissa (TX), Williams averaged 15 points, five rebounds, and 6.5 assists.

At the prestigious NBPA Top100 Camp this past summer, Williams was a notable performer who stacked up well against the top players in the class of 2026.

Following his play this weekend in Dallas, Williams is knocking on the door of becoming a Top150 recruit and should have his fair share of high majors getting involved moving forward.

"Growing up, I was a big SEC fan, so hopefully SEC schools call and truly recruit me well enough to go to their school," Williams said of who he is interested in exploring. "[The] Big East is also another conference I would love to play in and I feel like I could strive in. But, when it comes to a specific school, there isn't any that comes to mind."

Williams currently ranks as the No. 176 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but with his blend of strength, skill, instincts, scoring, and playmaking, he is certainly a prospect on the rise.

Prior to his commitment to Jackson State this fall, Williams had received offers from Memphis and Ole Miss.
