West Ham’s three-match unbeaten run came to a halt at the weekend as Nuno Espírito Santo’s side fell to a 2–0 defeat against reigning champions Liverpool.
Goals from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo ended the Reds’ own poor spell of form — but the game’s biggest talking point from a Hammers perspective was the controversial dismissal of Lucas Paquetá.
The Brazilian was shown two yellow cards in the space of a minute for dissent, leaving West Ham furious and without one of their standout performers for the upcoming fixtures.
Sitting 17th in the Premier League and in desperate need of reinforcements, the club’s recruitment team is already looking ahead.
One name, once again, has resurfaced.

West Ham are keeping a close eye on the future of Harvey Elliott amid growing uncertainty over his situation at Aston Villa.
The Hammers were linked with the midfielder in the summer, but he ultimately joined Villa on loan — a deal that includes an obligation to buy from Liverpool for £35 million if specific conditions are met. However, the long-term plan has now been thrown into doubt.
Fresh reports claim that West Ham still view Elliott as a potential signing, with the club tracking developments closely.
According to page 65 of the Sunday Mirror’s print edition, per Football Fancast, the Irons want to be kept fully informed about any changes to his status.
Elliott is considered a possible target for the summer of 2026, though there is also a scenario in which he could return to Liverpool as early as January if the Reds, Villa and the player all agree — with RB Leipzig also monitoring the situation.
For West Ham, the appeal is clear. Elliott, described as “fantastic” by Ian Wright and a Premier League winner during his time at Liverpool, remains a highly talented and versatile midfielder.
]With his valuation potentially dropping over the next year, the Hammers believe a future move could represent smart business.
