"Done his hamstring" - Leeds United fears worsen on massive injury setback this week

Leeds United winger Dan James could be looking at another spell on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring on Saturday against Manchester City.

A block of five tough fixtures awaits for Leeds in the final month of 2025. It starts with a home clash against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Leeds have areas to build on following their loss at Manchester City, looking much improved in the second half, but again coming away with nothing under Daniel Farke.

Leeds United sweating over new Dan James injury nightmare after Manchester City

United’s second-half fightback against Man City was sparked by Farke’s proactive changes at half-time. He hooked both wingers, Dan James and Willy Gnonto, in order to shift to a back five with Dominic Calvert-Lewin supporting Lukas Nmecha.

While it paid dividends with a drastic uptick in performance, the reason for James coming off was actually injury.

The Wales international complained of a hamstring issue during half-time that prompted Farke into making the switch.

“Daniel James reported some hamstring injuries at half time so it could be that he has done his hamstring,” Farke told BBC West Yorkshire Sport.

“We have to wait for further assessment I hope it’s not too bad. But straight after the game it didn’t look too good. So it could be that he is out for a while.”

Leeds United await confirmation on Anton Stach concussion protocol return

Elsewhere, Farke still has midfield issues to contend with. Sean Longstaff was confirmed last week to be out until around January with a four-to-six week absence, thanks to a calf issue picked up against Aston Villa.

Anton Stach missed the trip to the Etihad as well as he followed concussion protocol. Having been walloped by Emi Martinez, Stach was forced to sit out. He’s hoping to be back in training in time to feature against Chelsea.

Farke is due to speak to the press on Tuesday afternoon. In which, he will confirm Stach’s ability to feature or not. It would prove to be a significant boost to have him back, as Ethan Ampadu walks a yellow card suspension tightrope.
