Anselmino bagged his first Bundesliga goal this weekend, opening the scoring as Dortmund beat struggling Bayer Leverkusen 2-1. Speaking at full-time, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said he was planning to open talks with Chelsea over the player’s permanent transfer in short order.

“I will have to pick up the phone in the next few days and will certainly call them, he said.

“We hope that Aarón will stay on, of course. We have a very good connection with Chelsea.”

Chelsea did plenty of business with Dortmund in the summer, also selling Carney Chukwuemeka to the Bundesliga outfit.

Dortmund head coach Nico Kovac was similarly effusive in his praise for Anselmino, adding: "He fights with crusader spirit. When things get tight, there’s no nonsense with him. He breaks through. And that’s something you need at this level.

“You need defenders who love defending. The boy does that excellently. I love players like that, who do their job with dedication and passion.”

Anselmino was sent back to Boca Juniors on loan after he signed for Chelsea, but he was recalled in January after injuries to Reece James, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana.

“He's another talent, another good player. Now the most important thing is that he arrives here and he adapts himself, he starts to find a house, settling in the right way.

“Then we need to give him time, because when you come from the other part of the world, you need to adapt, you need to see a new world, a new culture.

“If he's here it's because we think he's a good player and he can help us.

“But for sure he's very young and he's coming from Argentina, completely different culture, different football, different level. So he needs time for that.”
