Liverpool and Real Madrid could take part in a massive piece of January business
Premier League champions Liverpool have seen matters on the pitch slip out of their grasp time and again in recent weeks and Arne Slot will already be returning to the drawing board amidst growing fears over his own job.
With several key first-team players struggling and other superstar names rumoured to be on the radar at Anfield, the January transfer window could represent an opportunity to remedy any glaring issues within the Reds’ side and offer Slot’s men the best possible opportunity of challenging for major honours come the end of the season.
A Real Madrid star is reportedly of interest for the Reds and that could result in a major swap deal taking place this January.
Liverpool preparing major move for Eduardo Camavinga
According to reports by Caught Offside, Liverpool are plotting a move for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga and may reportedly come forward with a €60 million (£52.5m) bid for the 23-year-old in January.
The stunning reports come amidst the idea that the France international is not viewed as an untouchable part of Los Blancos’ midfield like he once was, finding himself struggling for minutes under Xabi Alonso at what is to be a key stage in his career. He has made just three La Liga starts so far this season and may view the opportunity of a fresh start in England as the solution to a developing problem.
Liverpool have struggled across the pitch so far this season but have shown particular ineptitude controlling the midfield area. Camavinga’s natural defensive qualities in addition to his guile on the ball and his versatility – he can also fill in at left-back – would make him a highly valuable addition for the Reds.
Camavinga and Alexis Mac Allister swap deal could blow open January transfer window
Real Madrid are not believed to be actively seeking a sale for Camavinga, but the two clubs could come to a stunning compromise if a swap deal involving Alexis Mac Allister were to be discussed.
Real have been cited as holding an interest in Mac Allister for some time and would jump at the opportunity to seal the signing of the World Cup winner, who has become a world-class midfielder at Liverpool but has not been immune to a significant drop in performance levels for much of this campaign so far.
The 26-year-old could be tempted by a switch to sunny Madrid and is unlikely to oppose the transfer if Madrid offer Camavinga in a straight swap or player-plus-cash deal for the Argentine, who scored the winning goal when the two sides met at Anfield just last month. Mac Allister also scored the opener against Los Blancos in the Champions League opening phase in November 2024, and has proven to be a thorn in Madrid hearts on multiple occasions.
This stunning swap deal would undoubtedly steal the headlines in this January transfer window. It would shock fans from both sides but could see the two European heavyweights secure a top midfield target for the present and for many years to come.
