Pistons starter set to miss first game of the season vs. Hawks

DETROIT — Only Duncan Robinson could claim that he started all of the Detroit Pistons’ first 20 games this season.

While other starters on the team around him missed time to injury, Robinson played the role of the iron man, getting an expanded role and playing a feature part in Detroit’s hot start to the season.

But now, his streak of starts is coming to an end as he will miss Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks due to a right ankle sprain.

He was listed as questionable leading up to the game and was seen working in the weight room during shoot around Monday morning. However, he won’t be available for the game and two-way guard Daniss Jenkins will draw the start, his fifth of the season.

Coach J.B. Bickerstaff confirmed the sprain happened during the Pistons’ last game on Saturday against the Miami Heat where he rolled his rankle in front of the Detroit bench.

He was able to finish out his [return game against his former team](https://www.mlive.com/pistons/2025/11/pistons-guard-embracing-weird-opportunity-to-face-former-team-for-the-first-time.html) off adrenaline, according to Bickerstaff, scoring 18 points and adding five rebounds and five assists.

Going into tonight’s game, Cunningham leads the team in total minutes played with 641 while averaging 12.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. The sharpshooter is 43.8% from the field this season and 40.1% from beyond the arc.

While he’s spent a lot of the early parts of his time with the Pistons adjusting to a new scheme and learning his new teammates, Robinson has played a key role in Detroit owning the best record in the Eastern Conference.

The hope for the Pistons will be he doesn’t miss too much time.

“You can’t replace what he does,” Bickerstaff said before the game. “But I think what we’ve seen with this team is when guys go out, other guys have been able to step up and just (bring more) of what they do to their strength, which helps us impact winning.”
