A chill may have gone up the spine of Nuggets’ fans on Monday when they heard the news that new Nugget, Cam Johnson, will be taking over as the host of The Old Man and the 3 podcast. The groundbreaking pod was formed and hosted for years by J.J. Redick and his co-host, Tommy Alter.
> We’re incredibly hype to officially pass the mic and announce Cam Johnson as the new host of The Old Man and the Three!Yup, OM3 is BACK and will have a new episode every TUESDAY, starting TOMORROW featuring Nuggets teammate Aaron Gordon.

But Redick had to give up the podcasting game when he became the head coach of the Lakers, and his seat has been vacant ever since. But now, the 29-year-old UNC alum will take the reins and push the conversation forward.
The reason fans may be horrified is that they are likely immediately thinking about the former Nugget that was traded for Johnson, Michael Porter Jr. MPJ was the most active Nugget in the media for years, and was known to cause a distraction or two with his comments off the court.
It wasn’t a great experience having a player who would frequently stream and podcast, and being forced to brace for whatever controversial thing he would say next. That has only been amplified since the trade, as Porter Jr. has seemed to have his name in the headlines and all over social media every week for all the wrong reasons.
Johnson shouldn’t scare fans like MPJ did

Luckily, fans shouldn’t have to worry, though, as Cam is one of the most well-spoken, thoughtful players in the league. And while it still may not thrill fans to have an active player podcasting, this is the new reality of the NBA and the world. Johnson is more than capable of playing basketball while hosting this show, where he will talk about basketball.
Johnson will do a great job, and Nuggets fans should be happy that the local voice will be amplified in the national media by an outstanding advocate. Beyond that, he’ll be great at breaking down the game, talking about the league, and entertaining the audience.
Nuggets fans can also get excited for the first episode, as it has been announced that his first guest will be fellow Nugget, Aaron Gordon. So, if anything, we’ll likely get treated to some cool behind-the-scenes information and stories, and we may get to hear some new folklore about Nikola Jokic as a nice cherry on top.
So, while we haven’t had the best experiences with podcasting NBA players, Nuggets fans should embrace this wholeheartedly and welcome Cam’s pro-Denver voice to the media landscape.
