Journalist Claims Liverpool Are Considering Senegalese Star As Shock Salah Replacement

Liverpool are interested in signing Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye, according to Foot Mercato reporter Santi Aouna.

The French journalist is usually pretty reliable when it comes to transfers and he claims that the Reds, Manchester City and Tottenham all have the Senegalese international on their “shortlist.”

Ndiaye has caught the eye with his performances for the Toffees this season and he has even outshone Jack Grealish at times.

The 25-year-old may have only scored 4 goals in 15 appearances but he is not playing in the most attack-minded teams, and there is an argument for saying that he would be more prolific in a more expansive setup.

Ndiaye could be targeted as a replacement for Salah

The powers of the Egyptian king seem to be waning and the fact that he was an unused substitute against West Ham at the weekend suggests his days as a Liverpool player could be numbered.

It looks increasingly likely that Salah will leave at the end of the season. Ndiaye is a right winger (although he isn’t left-footed), so there is a chance that sporting director Richard Hughes and the recruitment team see him as an option to replace the current No.11.

The last transfer from Everton to Liverpool was a long time ago

It has been 23 years since a player last made the switch across the city, with Abel Xavier signing for £750,000 in January 2002. There have been no direct dealings between the two Merseyside rivals following that transfer.

For that reason, Liverpool would not be the favourites if Ndiaye is allowed to leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Everton would undoubtedly prefer to sell him to City or Spurs if it came to that.

With the Senegalese forward’s contract expiring in 2029 too, the Toffees are under no pressure to sell him in the near future either.
