What's wrong with Devin Booker? Explaining why Suns star isn't playing vs. Lakers

The Phoenix Suns’ 2025-26 campaign just took a turn for the worse.

Phoenix’s leading scorer and franchise player suffered a concerning injury vs. the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night that’ll likely affect them moving forward.

What’s wrong with Devin Booker?

According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, Booker, who exited the Suns’ ongoing contest early with a right groin injury, isn't in the best shape at the moment.

“Not good news for the Suns, as Devin Booker left tonight’s game against the Lakers and will not return with a right groin injury,” Siegel stated on X/Twitter. “Booker will likely be sidelined for a period of time with said injury now.”

While it’s still too early to declare Phoenix’s season finished, there certainly won’t be as much optimism surrounding the organization.

Dillon Brooks has emerged as a lethal No. 2 scoring option for the Suns, but Booker is the asset that helps the 2021 NBA Finals participants’ offense thrive at an elevated level.

The 6-foot-5 superstar is averaging 25.7 points, 6.9 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game on a Suns squad that’s surprisingly three games above .500 in early December.

Although it’s tough to predict the extent to which the Suns’ offense will struggle without knowing exactly how long Booker will be injured, it’s safe to say the Suns’ offense won’t trend upward.
