'Easier to not do anything': Finance expert thinks Slot needs to be 'lauded' after big Liverpool decision

Arne Slot has eased some of the pressure on him at Liverpool, but a tricky week still lies ahead.

The Reds face off with Sunderland in a Premier League meeting on Wednesday before taking on Leeds United this coming weekend.

Liverpool beat West Ham United 2-0 last time out, ending a run of just one win from seven in the top-flight.

Slot made some big calls in that match, including Florian Wirtz starting as a 10 and Mohamed Salah being benched.

Is this the beginning of the end for Salah?

Arne Slot praised for dropping Mohamed Salah

As expected, the 33-year-old being snubbed has caused much chatter in the media post-West Ham.

Alan Shearer told Salah he can’t complain about the snub as Liverpool played well and won.

Now, speaking on the Beyond The Back Four podcast, Kieran Maguire has stated that Slot should be lauded for the call.

He said: “Success comes down to opportunity, resources and decision making. Liverpool have lots of opportunities to win trophies, good backers with good resources in FSG and when it comes to decisions recruitment over summer has been questioned and puts pressure on manager. ‘

“Liverpool always big news and always deliver content for media outlets. Slot made call to drop Salah, Liverpool won, so should be lauded for it. Easier to not do anything controversial, but worked out well for them.”

Why Arne Slot benched Mohamed Salah

It’s not often we see the 33-year-old benched, never mind left off the pitch for a full 90 minutes.

But Slot explained why he snubbed Salah against West Ham, pointing towards Liverpool’s busy schedule.

He said: “In 10 days we played four and these players are such quality players.

“Mo has been so important for the club and will be so important for the club so let’s see what happens on Wednesday [against Sunderland].”

After Sunderland on Wednesday, the Reds are in action on December 6 before then facing Inter Milan in a Champions League meeting next Tuesday.

Salah is then expected to link up with Egypt later this month for the AFCON, which kicks off for them on December 22.
