Everton face a busy week and the Premier League has announced who are the officials for the trip to face Bournemouth.
David Moyes will be glad to have another game so quickly after his Everton side disappointed at the weekend.
Officials announced for Bournemouth vs Everton
A win for Everton takes them up into the European places and above Bournemouth in the Premier League table, it would also give a bit of breathing space to the three teams currently in the relegation zone. The added benefit would be getting the chastening defeat to Newcastle out of the system where the defence, with Jordan Pickford included, didn’t look anywhere near as resolute as it normally is.
Bournemouth are struggling to keep up their early season form with speculation continuing to surround the future of Antoine Semenyo. The 25-year old has been linked with all the top teams in the Premier League and Everton will be hoping that the impending January transfer window serves as a distraction.
Ahead of what could be a pivotal fixture for both teams in terms of their aspirations for the season, the Premier League has announced who the officials will be and the referee is one that neither side will be entirely happy to have with a former referee’s chief questioning his competence already this season. The referee will be Michael Salisbury, with his assistants being Marc Perry and Alex James. The fourth official is James Linington and on VAR duties is Stuart Attwell assistant by Constantine Hatzidakis.
Why ex-referee’s chief doesn’t rate Salisbury
Everton were the victors in October when Salisbury took charge of their game against Crystal Palace thanks to a last-minute goal by Jack Grealish. There were no red cards, penalties or need for VAR to intervene, however, there was a bizarre booking for Adam Wharton which caused former PGMOL boss Keith Hackett to tell Football Insider: “What I would say is, why is Michael Salisbury refereeing in the Premier League? He’s not good enough. It’s as simple as that.
“I think he’s a lucky guy. I wouldn’t want to say that his dad being a long-time football league referee has helped him, but I’ve not seen a performance from him that is consistent or worthy of being an elite referee.”
Moyes will be hoping that Everton can do enough to win the game without Salisbury or VAR getting involved and his players should be warned about the whistler’s tendency to overact and pull out the cards. Discipline could be the difference.
