Positive Conor Bradley injury update as Liverpool plan Jeremie Frimpong return

Arne Slot has offered a positive update on Conor Bradley‘s return from injury, while Jeremie Frimpong is also closing in on a comeback.

Liverpool have had to make-do without a specialist right-back for the last three matches, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez all left to fill in.

Bradley has missed the last three games with a muscle injury on return from international duty, while Frimpong has been sidelined for eight since a hamstring strain against Frankfurt.

With another four games in 11 days, adding depth back into the squad is key, and there was a positive update on that front when it came to Bradley.

Bradley could return at Leeds

Slot is hopeful his No. 12 will be an option against Leeds on Saturday after a return to training, offering this update: “Conor got into a team training session yesterday (Monday) for the first time.

“Not [involved in] everything 100 percent yet, we have to manage that a little bit.

“So, don’t get your hopes up too soon, but the good thing is that he has done certain parts with the group already.

“I hope he will be available for Leeds (on Saturday).”

As for Frimpong, the Dutchman is expected to mark his training return next week, but that still means he is to miss at least three more matches.

“We expect the same (training return) from Jeremie next week, so the two of them [then] come back. But, unfortunately, we play a lot of games in the upcoming week,” Slot explained.

“So if Jeremie is training with us next week, he will miss out on three more games, for example.”

Slot did not note any new injury concerns from the weekend’s win, but did explain that while Joe Gomez, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak cannot play three 90 minutes in a row, they can all be involved in the next three.

Right-back returns will be a timely boost

The importance of Liverpool welcoming Bradley and Frimpong back cannot be understated having had to compromise the midfield to accommodate their injuries.

Szoboszlai’s qualities have been muted when he is tasked with dropping into defence, with the team then unbalanced further up the pitch in his absence.

Gomez proved to be a more than suitable option at West Ham and ought to remain a consideration as long as he stays fit, with his composure offering stability on and off the ball.

There has also been the expectation that Frimpong was to help fill in on the right wing in the absence of Mohamed Salah, who is to report for the Africa Cup of Nations on December 15.

Liverpool need depth and the return of Bradley and Frimpong will afford Slot the luxury of choice, but he still has a handful of matches to navigate without having both at his disposal.
