Jayden Bogle says something has changed at Leeds United since Man City defeat

Leeds United full-back Jayden Bogle has explained how Daniel Farke’s half-time switch against Man City was about more than just tactics as his side prepare to face Chelsea.

Jayden Bogle has quietly been one of Leeds’ most effective performers in the Premier League this season, having kept the dangerous Jeremy Doku quiet in the defeat at the Etihad.

Leeds full-back Bogle was given a licence to control the right wing when Daniel Farke switched to the 3-5-2 formation that pulled Leeds back into the game. Wingers Dan James and Willy Gnonto were withdrawn at half-time to facilitate Leeds’ new approach.

The former Sheffield United man is almost certain to start for Leeds against Chelsea, as Farke considers whether to stick with the 3-5-2 that served his side so well in the second half at the Etihad.

Now, ahead of the meeting with Chelsea, Bogle has explained that the change at the Etihad went beyond a simple formation shift, as Leeds look to end their four-game losing streak.

Jayden Bogle explains Leeds United mentality shift against Manchester City

Speaking to BBC West Yorkshire Sport as Leeds prepare to face Chelsea at Elland Road, Bogle admitted Leeds underwent a mentality shift at half-time at the Etihad.

According to Bogle, Farke’s tactical change helped Leeds become more comfortable going direct and made the hosts play in more difficult areas on the pitch.

Bogle said: “I think obviously we went a bit more direct, which I’m not sure they were ready for in the second half.

“And, the whole mentality shift, understanding we might not have as much possession, but we’re going to go and get in dangerous areas and make their back line run towards their own goal, which helps.

“I think you have to do that at times against the top teams to unsettle them and get yourself chances.”

Jayden Bogle is answering his Premier League critics

Bogle’s impressive form in the Premier League represents a redemption story for the defender, who struggled in his last experience in the top flight.

The full-back endured a torrid ride after winning promotion with Sheffield United, as the Blades were relegated at the first time of asking in the 2023/24 season.

That season featured several heavy defeats, including 5-0 and 6-0 defeats against Arsenal. Bogle was criticised for his defensive performances, and admitted to the Sheffield Star that he “had a headache after the game. Mad.”

However, with another season in the Championship under his belt, Bogle has now proven that he is more than capable of taking the step up to the top flight.
