West Ham Dealt Big Injury Blow As Man Utd Match Comes 'Too Soon' For 1st Team Regular's Comeback

West Ham will be without Crysencio Summerville once again when they face Manchester United later this week.

It was hoped that the Dutchman would be back for the Liverpool fixture, but he did not make the bench for the 2-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon.

Now, Hammers News claims the trip to Old Trafford this Thursday will also come “too soon” for Summerville.

The winger has been sidelined since the win over Burnley due to a “minor” knock, but if he misses the Man United fixture, he would have been unavailable for the best part of a month.

Summerville’s fitness issues since moving to West Ham

Following his move from Leeds last year, the 24-year-old has missed 26 games in total due to injuries.

A torn hamstring meant that Summerville was on the treatment table for the second half of last season and the start of this campaign. His absence was reportedly longer than it should have been after he delayed surgery to undergo more conservative treatment.

This latest setback has also been much longer than expected, raising concerns about his overall fitness levels.

It’s a major blow for Nuno

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is already without Lucas Paqueta after the Brazilian international was sent off for dissent against Liverpool.

It means he will have to make do without two of his main threats in the final third of the pitch at Old Trafford.

While Man United’s defence isn’t exactly watertight (they have conceded 20 goals in 13 league games), the same was said about Liverpool, and the Irons struggled to create any meaningful chances against the Premier League champions, even before going down to ten men.

Nuno will have to find solutions for Thursday’s game, but he won’t be able to rely on Summerville to increase his team’s potency up front.
