Arne Slot rules Liverpool star out of next three games but defender back in training ahead of Sunderland

West Ham 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool team news ahead of the Premier League fixture against Sunderland at Anfield.

Arne Slot has revealed that Conor Bradley has returned to training ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Sunderland.

The right-back has found himself back on the treatment table, suffering an issue representing Northern Ireland during the international break.

Bradley has missed Liverpool’s past three games and left Arne Slot with no recognised right-back, with Jeremie Frimpong still unavailable. With the Reds facing Sunderland at Anfield tomorrow, Bradley is back in parts of team sessions but is unlikely to be in the squad to face the Black Cats.

However, he could return to the fray for Saturday’s trip to Leeds United. But Frimpong will miss both fixtures, as well as the trip to Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday 9 December.

What’s been said

Speaking at his pre-Sunderland press conference, head coach Slot said: "Conor got into a training session yesterday for the first time, team training. He's not everything 100 per cent yet so we have to manage that a little bit, so don't get your hopes up too soon, too fast

“The good thing is he does certain things with the group already. We expect the same with Jeremie next week. The two of them will come back but, unfortunately, we play a lot of games in the upcoming weeks. Jeremie, at least, will be training with us but he miss out on at least three more games, for example. I hope Conor will be available for Leeds.”

Sunderland challenge

Liverpool head into the game after a much-needed 2-0 victory at West Ham United. The triumph eased the pressure on head coach Slot after the Reds suffered nine defeats in their previous 12 matches.

They now face a Sunderland side who are this season’s surprise package after earning promotion back to the Premier League. The Black Cats are sixth in the table, two places and one point above Liverpool, and came from two goals behind to earn a 3-2 victory over AFC Bournemouth last weekend. They also defeated Chelsea earlier this campaign and earned a 1-1 draw against runaway league leaders Arsenal.

They brought in a lot of new players and started off so well,” Slot said on the challenge of facing Sunderland. "I saw the Chelsea against Arsenal game, very high-quality game, and I was aware of the fact that Sunderland beat Chelsea in their stadium and drew with Arsenal. It tells you how strong they must be. They have shown a great mentality. The style they play, the risks they take, all 11 players work so, so hard to get a result."
