After both suffering heavy defeats in high-scoring matches over the weekend, Bournemouth and Everton meet on Tuesday night at the Vitality Stadium for a crucial Premier League clash.
Bournemouth’s woes continued with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Sunderland on Saturday. Despite racing into a 2-0 lead through goals from Amine Adli and a long-range strike by Tyler Adams, Andoni Iraola’s side became the first Premier League team to lose to Sunderland after leading by two goals—a record no other side had set before. Sunderland’s comeback was completed by Enzo Le Fee’s penalty, Bertrand Traore’s finish, and a late impact from substitute Brian Brobbey.
Once seen as potential European contenders, Bournemouth now find themselves battling to stay in the top half of the table. Iraola’s men have managed just one point from their last four league games and only two wins from nine Premier League matches, a run that has cast a shadow over the highly-rated coach’s reputation. However, the Cherries can take some comfort in their home form: they remain unbeaten at the Vitality Stadium in the 2025-26 Premier League season, with four wins from six matches and a chaotic draw with West Ham providing their only point in the last four outings.
Everton, meanwhile, have also seen their fortunes dip. After a promising unbeaten start at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, David Moyes’s side were humbled 4-1 at home by Newcastle United, who followed Tottenham’s example with a convincing three-goal victory. Malick Thiaw’s early header set the tone for a difficult evening, bringing Everton’s three-match unbeaten run—highlighted by their memorable triumph at Old Trafford—to an abrupt end. The defeat leaves the Toffees in the bottom half of the table, though a push for the top ten remains within reach.
A trip away from home might offer Everton a chance to regroup. They could go unbeaten in three consecutive Premier League away matches for the first time since March, and their 1-0 win at Old Trafford marked their first away clean sheet in the league this season. However, they face a daunting challenge against Bournemouth, who have won the last four meetings between the sides. Everton have not tasted victory at the Vitality Stadium since 2016, and will need to overcome that poor recent record if they are to claim a valuable three points on Tuesday.
