Enzo Maresca says Chelsea star had 'one of his best games' against Arsenal, it's not Reece James

A draw at Stamford Bridge doesn’t usually please Enzo Maresca, but the circumstances Chelsea faced against Arsenal paint the result in a more positive light.

As league leaders, Arsenal were expected to take the game to Chelsea at the weekend, but the opposite occurred.

Chelsea were the more aggressive side, pressing the issue from minute one, and not slowing down when Moises Caicedo was sent off after a VAR check right before the break.

Reece James was world-class in midfield against Arsenal and has received the most plaudits. That said, there was another star Maresca wanted to credit in his pre-Leeds press conference.

Enzo Maresca wants to give Robert Sanchez his due

The 2025/26 season has been a turning point for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

After an impressive Club World Cup campaign, he has looked a different player for the Blues.

Joao Pedro claims Sanchez saved Chelsea against Arsenal, and he’s not the only one praising the Spaniard.

Maresca told the media (via Chelsea): “I think Robert, in terms of saving, he has always been good. Since day one, our buildup, it depends on how the other team presses.

“Robert’s game against Arsenal was also one of his best games in terms of build-up. He is improving especially in the build-up.”

Who is Chelsea’s best goalkeeper?

Last season, Sanchez felt like a mistake waiting to happen. Since the summer’s victory, he seems more confident between the sticks.

He has four clean sheets in his last six games and is inspiring confidence in his teammates with how comfortable he now looks, both in possession and protecting his goal.

Maresca cautious of Leeds and Bournemouth

After two blockbuster ties last week, this week is a test.

Maresca has to prove Chelsea’s ability to remain consistent in ‘lesser’ ties — something that cost them dearly last campaign.

Our XI to face Leeds!

What changes would you make?

That challenge starts at Elland Road on Wednesday night. Really, anything but a Chelsea win will be disappointing.
