Spanish full-back Marc Cucurella has signed a new contract with Chelsea, despite the club yet to make a formal announcement confirming it.
The deal may have been done as long ago as August, and the news will come as a blow to a number of clubs who have been linked with him, including Atlético Madrid.
In the first 18 months after he came from Brighton, Cucurella attracted more than his fair share of criticisms because of his performances, but he has since settled into the role, and developed into one of the best left backs in the world. He is also now first choice for the Spanish national team and will be an integral part of their World Cup squad next summer.
At 27 years old he should now be approaching his prime years, whilst his experience also makes him a valuable asset in what Is largely a young dressing room at Stamford Bridge.
