‘Unbelievable!’ – Player justifying ‘insanely inflated’ price tag as Liverpool question transfer choice

Luis Diaz is close to justifying his value to Bayern Munich, with the deal to sign him from Liverpool now looking like good value.

That’s according to Sport BILD journalist Raimund Hinko. He’s full of praise for the Colombian winger today, despite initially questioning his move from Liverpool.

Diaz cost Bayern Munich €75m in the summer transfer window when he arrived from Liverpool. That deal was comprised of €70m plus €5m in add-ons.

The deal was one of the biggest of the summer, and certainly raised eyebrows at the time, particularly in Germany. So far, though, he’s proven to be a smart signing for Vincent Kompany’s side.

He’s currently on 12 goals and six assists in 19 games in all competitions, numbers which have helped to quickly justify the huge fee paid for him. In the meantime, questions are being asked about Liverpool’s decision to sell him.

Some fans believe that the wrong decision was made to let Diaz go this summer, seemingly in favour of Cody Gakpo. That is despite the huge fee Liverpool ultimately received for him.

Hinko is one of those who questioned the move from a Bayern side. It seems, though, he’s now been convinced otherwise.

“Sometimes you really have to wonder if you can take yourself too seriously in football,” he said.

“Even I sometimes wonder, having bet my non-existent fortune that Bayern Munich will shed bitter tears for paying Liverpool an insanely high €70m transfer fee for Luis Diaz.

“Week after week, Diaz is getting closer to that sum. Not only does he score crucial goals, but he throws himself into the fray and was sorely missed at Arsenal due to his suspension.

“It’s not unreasonable to speculate that Bayern would have played better, perhaps even won, with the Colombian in their ranks. Yes! Diaz is already worth almost €69m… Unbelievable!”
