Mohamed Salah is reportedly still on the list of two Saudi Pro League sides who could look to sign the Egyptian in the future.
The Saudi interest in Salah first reached fever pitch in August 2023, when Al-Ittihad launched an audacious bid to make the Egyptian their marquee signing.
Backed by the Public Investment Fund, the Saudi champions submitted an offer worth up to £150 million on transfer deadline day.
However, the Anfield club declined the offer.
As Klopp announced in January 2024 that the 2023-24 season would be his last at Liverpool, speculation about Salah’s future resurfaced amid a tumultuous end to the campaign.
Despite months of uncertainty and continued Saudi interest – with reports in January 2025 that Al-Hilal was lining up Salah as Neymar’s replacement – Salah ultimately signed a two-year contract extension last season.
The deal keeps him at Liverpool through the 2027 season and was supposed to end all Saudi Pro League speculation.
However, it seems that the project still wants Mohamed Salah at some point.
Alex Crook of talkSPORT has claimed that Al-Hilal alongside Al-Qadsiah are the two clubs lining up for the 33-year-old:
“Mohamed Salah remains firmly on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs amid his drop in form at Liverpool.”
“Sources have told talkSPORT that Saudi deal-makers remain committed to recruiting the Egyptian superstar at some point.”
“It is still believed Al Hilal are a leading contender for Salah but Al-Qadsiah have also expressed interest.”
Al-Hilal were the club pushing most for the Egyptian during the 2024/25 season.
Salah himself previously addressed the Saudi Pro League attention, and admitted that he has been in touch with representatives even after his new deal was signed:
“I will stop playing when I have that feeling but if you ask me for my opinion, I think I can play until the age of 39 or 40.”
“But if I felt before that I wanted to stop, I would quit. I have achieved a lot of things.”
“I thought it was a good opportunity. My contract was up at Liverpool and I would have gone to Saudi but we finalised the deal with Liverpool.”
“And I still have a good relationship with them and I always stay in contact with them. Yes, we were talking to each other,” Salah explained.
“I don’t know what is going to happen but I am happy here in Liverpool and I am staying here for the next two years. Then I will see what I will do next.”
