“He is a legend”–Alexander Isak Newcastle invitation remains open despite Liverpool transfer drama

For most of his time at Newcastle United, it was sunshine and roses for Alexander Isak. His move to Liverpool and the way it came about ruined that.

But that’s not stopping the owners of the ‘Sunshine’ restaurant from hoping he may visit in future. It seems they’re not burning any bridges with the former Newcastle man, if the latest in Fotboll Skanalen is anything to go by.

They’ve been speaking to the newspaper today about their hopes to get the Liverpool striker to their restaurant one day.

For those that don’t know the back story, it goes like this. Back when Newcastle United won the League Cup, Isak posted a picture on Instagram which showed the sign for the Sunshine restaurant. They are an Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurant a stone’s throw from St James’ Park.

The picture went viral and the local newspaper called it Isak’s favourite restaurant. However, the striker, who has Eritrean roots, had never been to the restaurant or eaten in it.

Sensing an opportunity, he was invited to do so by owner Daniel Solomon. That’s not been accepted as yet, but Solomon is holding out hope that it’ll change. That’s even after Isak’s bitter move to Liverpool this summer.

“He was also invited to come here to the restaurant, just before he left,” he said.

“So, if he had stayed in Newcastle he could have come. But we had a good “connection” with Isak. We were not happy that he left Newcastle. It was a bit sad that he left, but it was his choice.

“But I got to meet him in person, which some of us got to do. Then he was invited to come to the restaurant, but he couldn’t come.

“He is a legend in everyone’s eyes. He may come, you never know. If he ever visits Newcastle, I think he will visit us again.”
