**Nuno Espírito Santo’s style of football is one that will most likely succeed at West Ham, but there are also some huge negatives**.
West Ham played a poor Liverpool team on Sunday, the phrase ‘there to be got at’ is one that has been doing the rounds on West Ham social media channels, and it’s spot on.
Nuno Espirito Santo went into this game playing his normal tactics, we all know what they are, he likes to defend pretty deep and hit the opposition on the counter. This works a lot, but it can also be frustrating, and it was exactly that.
Normally, if we played like that against Liverpool you’d say fair enough, but that Liverpool team isn’t like the Liverpool teams of the past. The opportunity was there to take the game to them, pressure them, make them worry they were going to lose again. But we didn’t do that, they didn’t even have to get out of first gear.
The team didn’t want to go out and attack, they were happy to try keep it 0-0 for as long as possible and that’s where the game went wrong. We had no pace on the counter without Summerville, there wasn’t any real attacking threat in the team, Bowen was poor, Paqueta was awful and Wilson couldn’t get too involved because of the service he was getting.
Playing like that is going to get us some great results, but it’s also going to end in some games that felt like a wasted opportunity. The match against Liverpool was one of those waster opportunities.
