5 Best Left-Sided Attacks in the Premier League

The linkup between a winger and a full-back is a classic attacking combination in modern football. It provides plenty of options for both players and can unlock even the tighest of defences.

Previously, we looked at the best right-sided attacking combinations in the Premier League – today, however, we will be examining the inverse.

We will only be looking at players who play predominantly on the left-hand side for this list. Players who have generally functioned on the right hand side of the pitch this season will not be considered.

Lucas Digne & Emi Buendia

While Emi Buendia is a natural attacking midfielder, he has found a home on the left side of midfield at Aston Villa this season. He isn’t particularly quick, but his excellent ball control and dribbling ability makes up for it.

Lucas Digne also isn’t known for his pace – but he is known for his fantastic set-piece taking and crossing ability. Buendia often uses his clever movement to create space for Digne to fire a cross into the box. Between them, they have scored three goals and have notched up five assists in 2025/26.

Milos Kerkez & Cody Gakpo

Milos Kerkez has come under heavy fire at Liverpool this season, but the majority of the criticisms being hurled at him are based on his defensive frailties. Going forward, Kerkez has much more to offer than when he is on the backfoot.

Cody Gakpo, on the other hand, has been one of Liverpool’s better players this season. He hasn’t been perfect, but his willingness to get into dangerous areas and take risks has been commendable. When combined, Kerkez and Gakpo have scored five Premier League goals and have accumulated three assists.

Nico O’Reilly & Jeremy Doku

One of the more unorthodox duos on this list – Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly and Jeremy Doku tend to play underlaps, rather than overlaps, with O’Reilly drifting centrally and Doku occupying the half-spaces outside of the box.

Doku’s blistering runs are helped by O’Reilly’s marauding underlaps – furthermore, this has also allowed O’Reilly to get forward and score goals. In total, they have two goals and six assists to their name in the Premier League this season.

Marc Cucurella & Alejandro Garnacho

Marc Cucurella might not be the most popular player in the Premier League, but his effectiveness for Chelsea can’t be denied. His main strengths are in his defensive work, but he gets forward to support Alejandro Garnacho very effectively.

Garnacho isn’t the only player he has linked up with this season – Jamie Gittens and Pedro Neto have also occupied the left flank. However, Garnacho is probably his best partner, as Neto functions better on the right and Gittens has yet to find his feet in the Premier League.

Riccardo Calafiori & Gabriel Martinelli

Once again, Arsenal find themselves at the top of one of our lists. Riccardo Calafiori is a true ‘Rolls Royce’ of a footballer – not only is he very difficult to knock off the ball, he possesses underrated attacking attributes. Naturally a centre-back, Mikel Arteta has done a fine job in converting him into a left-back.

Alongside Gabriel Martinelli, they provide a physical, hard-working attacking presence down the left hand side. All in all, they have scored just two goals and have notched up two assists, but this doesn’t tell the whole the story of how effective they can be.
