Uncertainty continues to surround Arne Slot’s position as Liverpool manager
The Reds were able to get an important win on the board over the weekend but the result is currently just a drop in the ocean compared to their campaign so far. The reigning Premier League champions have watched their title defence chances slip dramatically away, with six defeats on the board since September.
Slot’s dramatic decline from a maiden Premier League title win to currently sitting eighth in the table has sparked up a lot of rumours. Potential candidates to succeed him at Anfield have been named, with Klopp one of the main figures being discussed.
Liverpool links with Jurgen Klopp amid Arne Slot sack rumours
As the pressure continues to build on Slot’s shoulders, fans and professionals alike have been discussing who could potentially replace the Dutchman, should Liverpool opt to show him the door.
Even media in Germany has been speculating over whether Klopp will return to Merseyside. Speaking on his show for BILD, Swiss journalist and commentator Marcel Reif believes the former manager has left a ‘scar’ on the club following his departure in 2024.
Addressing Klopp’s comments on The Diary of a CEO, which suggested a hypothetical return to his old role, Reif said: “This statement comes at the wrong time for Slot. He's [Klopp] hovering like a UFO over Anfield. All of Liverpool would carry him back on their shoulders. And it would be negligent if they didn't try Klopp.”
Fabrizio Romano says there are no links with Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp
Speaking in his latest video on his YouTube channel, Romano has provided an update on the Klopp to Liverpool rumours.
“Despite all the questions I am getting, I’m not aware of Liverpool having any sort of contact with Jurgen Klopp,” the transfer expert said. “The situation with Arne Slot - we know they need to fix it - they won their last game against West Ham so they are trying to get out of the negative moments.
“But all the rumours about Jurgen Klopp... at this stage, the message coming is quite clear. No conversations, no talks of a Jurgen Klopp return to Liverpool. Klopp is fully focused on his project at the Red Bull Group, so that’s the story as of today. Nothing into it, everything really quiet between Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.”
Naturally, Slot has been quizzed on his current situation, and Liverpool’s poor run of recent form. The Reds have lost nine of their last 13 games in all competitions and have uphill climbs to face in both the Premier League and Champions League.
“It is a shock for everyone, for the players, for me, this is very, very unexpected. I am feeling safe, I am okay though,” Slot admitted after Liverpool’s embarrassing European defeat to PSV.
