Chelsea have officially announced that Isago Silva, the son of club legend Thiago Silva, has signed his first professional contract with the Blues. The 17-year-old defender has committed his future to the club, ensuring the Silva family legacy continues at Stamford Bridge despite his father’s departure in 2024.
Isago has steadily moved up through the youth ranks since joining the Chelsea academy in 2020 when his father came from Paris Saint-Germain. Capable of operating as both a central defender and a left-back, the teenager has been a regular fixture in the youth setup.
Thiago Silva returned to Fluminense after an emotional goodbye, but Isago stayed in London to work on his own path to the first team.
The club confirmed the news via a formal statement, highlighting the player’s development over the last few years. The official statement read:
“We are delighted to announce that Chelsea Academy defender Isago Silva has signed his first professional contract with the club. The 17-year-old has been a Blue since joining us ahead of his Under-13s season. In that time, he has developed into a versatile and reliable defender.”
Isago himself took to social media to share his excitement about the milestone, posting images of the signing moment.
“Proud to sign my first pro deal with Chelsea. Hungry for more.”
His father, Thiago, also reacted to the news from Brazil, reposting the announcement with emotional emojis, while his mother, Belle, offered her public congratulations. For Chelsea fans, the signing provides a nostalgic link to one of their modern greats, though the club will be keen to let Isago develop at his own pace in the coming seasons.
Chelsea Also Announced the Caicedo Deal
Chelsea have also confirmed a new contract for midfielder Moises Caicedo, which is a big boost for the senior team. The Ecuadorian international, who has become a key player for Enzo Maresca, is said to have agreed to better terms that reflect his status as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
Caicedo talked about how committed he was to the club during the renewal process and how happy he was living in London. He said in an interview:
“I am very happy with life at Stamford Bridge. It was a dream to come here, and I want to give everything to this club because they didn’t doubt me. I want to win more trophies with this club.”
The announcement came at a bad time, though, because Caicedo was sent off just hours later in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday. The midfielder got a straight red card in the first half for a foul on Mikel Merino that VAR said was very bad.
The 24-year-old had only been sent off once in 130 Premier League games, so this was a rare mistake for him. He will now have to sit out a game right after signing a long-term contract with the Blues.
