Vincent Kompany praise for Luis Diaz after latest Bayern Munich goal

Arne Slot wanted to keep Diaz in England, but he was overruled by Richard Hughes.

Now, the Colombian is playing alongside Harry Kane and being coached by former Manchester City centre-back Vincent Kompany.

Their most recent game saw them come from 1-0 down to beat FC St. Pauli 3-1.

Diaz provided a goal and an assist in that victory, and has since earned high praise from his manager, who admitted he’s the type of player he did not like facing when he was still active.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Kompany said: “Lucho has got a kind of ‘chaotic creativity’. He can always do something in chaos.

“As a defender, I always found it uncomfortable to play against such players because you never know whether you have the ball under control or he has it. He kept his head up while on the ground and played a great pass. He did the exact same move in training yesterday. That’s a quality of his.”

Luis Diaz on course to better Liverpool tally

Whether Liverpool should have sold Diaz in the summer or not is something fans will be debating for as long as he keeps performing in Germany.

The quality of teams faced on a weekly basis is, of course, different, but the 28-year-old is already well on his way to bettering his best-ever Liverpool season.

2024/25 saw Diaz score 17 goals and provide eight assists in 50 matches across all competitions.

After his latest contributions for Bayern Munich, though, the South American sits on 12 goals and six assists from 19 matches.
