Arsenal and Liverpool preparing bids for Real Madrid star

Premier League leaders Arsenal will hope to maintain their lead at the top of the table when they face Brentford on Wednesday night.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, but sit five points clear at the summit going into the midweek programme of matches.

Second-placed Manchester City can reduce that lead with victory over Fulham on Tuesday night, but in the meantime it appears that Arsenal are plotting an audacious move to sign a La Liga superstar.

According to CaughtOffside, both Arsenal and reigning Premier League champions Liverpool are preparing offers to sign Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo.

It is claimed that the Brazilian could be on his way out of the Spanish capital when the transfer window reopens in January, having fallen out of favour since Xabi Alonso’s arrival as head coach.

The Brazil international joined Real Madrid from Santos back in 2019 and has established himself as one of the best attackers in Europe in the years since, scoring 68 goals and providing 53 assists in 285 games in total.

He has fallen down the pecking order of attackers since the arrival of Kylian Mbappe, though, while the emergence of Arda Guler has also hindered his playing time this term.

So far this season the 24-year-old started just three La Liga matches, and the report suggests that he could therefore be on his way out of the club in January.

Both the Gunners and the Reds are said to be plotting moves for the player, with the report suggesting that Real Madrid could accept an offer in the region of £75-80 million for the player.

It is claimed that Arsenal could meet Madrid’s asking price if Rodrygo expresses a desire to leave.
