David Moyes was handed a new selection headache for the game with Nottingham Forest just 22 minutes into the match with Bournemouth.
Tim Iroegbunam, who started in a makeshift central midfield alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, was booked for a sliding tackle on Antoine Semenyo.
The yellow card was his fifth of the season and means he will not be available for the return of Sean Dyche to Everton on Saturday.
It is a game that veteran midfielder Idrissa Gueye will also miss as he serves the third and final match of his suspension for the straight red card he received at Old Trafford.
That was for an incident involving Michael Keane, whose absence at the Vitality Stadium forced a reshuffle of the team that led to James Garner starting at right back. Keane was ruled out through injury.
Garner will be the only fit and available specialist central midfielder available to Moyes at the weekend - provided he avoids a yellow card at Bournemouth.
Iroegbunam’s absence will come as a blow with Jarrad Branthwaite, Merlin Rohl and Seamus Coleman currently unavailable through injury.
Speaking on Keane's injury before the game, Moyes said: "He had a little bit of an injury going into the Newcastle game and played but unfortunately he couldn't make this one, so we've had to make a change. "We don't know [how long he'll be out]. We hope he might [recover] quite quickly."
