Liverpool learn Salah’s AFCON release date

**Liverpool have learned Mohamed Salah’s Africa Cup of Nations release date.**

Salah will be absent for Arne Slot’s side for several weeks as he represents Egypt in the tournament which officially gets underway on December 21.

The forward is set to miss the Reds’ upcoming Premier League games with Tottenham and Wolves due to clashing with his country’s group schedule.

Salah is also expected to be out for the New Years’ Day visit of Leeds as it will take place just three days after the Pharaohs’ closing Group B encounter.

But should his homeland reach the AFCON final, the 33-year-old would not be available until January 19 at the earliest; missing seven club games in total.

Slot has confirmed Salah, who on the substitutes’ bench for the win at West Ham, will be released to Egypt after his side face Brighton on December 13.

He said: “It’s December 15 but as always in these situations there is a player involved, there is the nation involved – Egypt in this situation – and the club and there are always talks about what is best for all three of us.

“I think the way we’ve worked at this club – and I have worked in the past – is there is communication between all three: the player, the club and the country.

“That’s nothing new, it’s always the same.

“Also, when they come back, when they go. I think FIFA have said the 15th is the last date I assume a player has to be released.”
