Pelicans’ Zion Williamson will reportedly miss significant time after suffering another injury

New Orleans Pelicans star forward Zion Williamson has suffered a right adductor injury and will miss an extended period of time, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday.

Williamson, who is in his sixth season with the team, will be re-evaluated in three weeks, according to Charania. It’s unclear when Williamson suffered the injury.

The Duke product missed Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, and was originally labeled questionable for Tuesday night’s home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. It’s now clear that Williamson will be off the court for a significant period of time for the Pelicans, who fired coach Willie Green on Nov. 15 following a 2-10 start to the season. With a 3-18 overall mark, the team is 1-9 under interim coach James Borrego.

After missing eight games with a strained left hamstring earlier this season, Williamson returned to action on Nov. 19 in a 125-118 loss to the Denver Nuggets. He had been productive over five games played since returning from injury, including 25 points and seven rebounds in his last game in a 104-96 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.

A year after playing in only 30 games over the course of an injury-plagued 2024-25 campaign, Williamson has played in 10 of the Pelicans’ 21 games. He is averaging 22.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists this season.

The adductor muscles are a group of three muscles located in the inner thigh, providing stability for the pelvis during activities such as running and jumping.
