It’s a yearly tradition in the NBA world to wonder whether this will be the season a potential trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo might happen. The chatter this season is feeling more and more real, especially with how the Bucks have struggled so much with Giannis’ recent time away because of injury.
The question for Utah Jazz fans is, is a move for Giannis possible, and would it be worth it?
Utah, having had some luck in the draft, has some young pieces it could give the Bucks, plus a ton of picks if it wanted. Undoubtedly, the Bucks would ask for Ace Bailey in any deal. Would that be something that the Utah Jazz could stomach? Bailey is showing incredible promise as a young player and has a ton of room to grow. Utah also has players on the roster who could match salary. Here’s a rough idea of what a matching salary trade would look like.
Obviously, it would also take all of Utah’s picks. That would leave the Jazz a core of Keyonte George, Lauri Markkanen, Walker Kessler, and Giannis.
To be honest, this feels to me like the type of move that Ryan Smith is looking for. When he mentioned opening a championship window, is it for something like this?
The Jazz could also go the other way, would they want to surround Giannis with their young core? Here’s a move that uses Markkanen’s salary to make the trade happen.
This move would also require all of Utah’s picks, but would give the Bucks a win-now player. The Bucks would likely want someone else. Maybe if Utah throws in Walker Kessler, they could make it happen?
It’s unlikely the Bucks would accept either of these deals, and they might require all of this, but is a youth movement around Giannis something that can win a title? A core of Keyonte George, Ace Bailey, and Giannis would be an exciting, interesting core, but would the Jazz youth be ready to take on the likes of Denver and OKC?
What do you think, is there a trade the Jazz could make that would keep the Jazz in contention for a title?
