David Moyes praised Tim Iroegbunam for his comeback performance after the disappointment of a tough weekend.
The central midfielder was withdrawn at half-time after a difficult opening 45 minutes in Everton’s home defeat to Newcastle United. His start at the Vitality Stadium came courtesy of an injury to Michael Keane that forced the Blues boss into calling the 22-year-old back into his plans.
He responded with a brave display that was at the heart of the 1-0 win that secured Everton a memorable result at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
Moyes said: “I thought Tim got better actually as the game went on, when we needed him to do his defensive recovery work. I thought he did a really good job. So I am pleased with him.”
Iroegbunam produced several important challenges - though he will miss Everton’s game with Nottingham Forest on Saturday through suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Despite that coming in the 22nd minute he continued to make a number of strong challenges, timing them to perfection.
Moyes was pleased with other players as his squad showed that faith can be placed in some of those who have received fewer minutes than key names so far in this campaign.
He also showered praise on another star who has hit a strong patch of form in Royal Blue, stating: “I thought Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was terrific and his all around play was fantastic. It was a good result. I think sometimes the midweek Premier League games can sometimes be a bit slow because of the games at the weekend.
"But we got the goal and it was really important. We've not had a good record here. Everton have not had a good record here, so from our point of view, to win 1-0 was a big result for us.”
