'Will miss eight weeks' - Leeds United suffer big double injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

West Ham 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool face struggling Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Leeds United have suffered a significant injury blow ahead of their upcoming clash against Liverpool.

After promotion back to the Premier League, the Yorkshire outfit have a battle on their hands to survive. They are 18th in the table and have lost their previous four matches.

And Leeds will be without Dan James for a period. The pacy winger has sustained a hamstring injury, which means he will be on the treatment table for at least eight weeks - and even longer if he is required to undergo surgery. James has made 11 appearances so far this campaign.

Leeds United injury news

Leeds are expected to welcome back Anton Stach (concussion) and Karl Darlow (adductor) to their squad against Chelsea. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Farke said: “Good news since Sunday with Anton, he's back in team training and definitely also available for this game. Some disappointing news with Daniel James. His hamstring tendon is injured. He will be out, sidelined, depends if he needs surgery or not.

"It looks like he will miss at least the next eight weeks. As it stands we have to expect he's out for two months at least, could be worse with surgery. We need him back as soon as possible, as quick as possible. In four weeks we will see a little clearer how long the injury will last.

"Karl missed three team trainings last week and was not able to travel with us but that seems to be sorted. It was a minor adductor injury, but he's back in training today and should be alright."

Leeds currently have summer signing Sean Longstaff on the treatment table because of a calf complaint. The midfielder, who has recorded one goal and two assists i 13 matches since his move to Elland Road from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, picked up his issue before the Whites’ 3-2 loss at the hands of Manchester City last weekend. “Sadly Sean Longstaff is expected to be out for almost four to six weeks, he suffered a calf injury in the last game,” said Farke.

Meanwhile, Sebastiaan Bornauw has missed the Whites’ past five games because of a knee problem.

Liverpool team news

Liverpool will be hopeful that they pick up no further injuries against Sunderland. The Reds are hopeful that Conor Bradley could return to the squad at Leeds, having been back in part of team training this week. The right-back has missed the previous four games because of a muscle injury.

Jeremie Frimpong is making progress from a hamstring issue and he is pencilled in to return to training next week.
