“No fresh talks” – Fabrizio Romano pours cold water on Chelsea transfer despite new reports

No fresh talks have taken place between Chelsea and Mike Maignan over a potential transfer according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues had the chance to sign Maignan in the summer, but weren’t prepared to get close to AC Milan’s valuation.

Instead Chelsea opted to stick with their current options of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen, whilst they also have talented youngster Mike Penders on loan at Strasbourg.

Supporters were certainly disappointed a new keeper didn’t arrive in the summer, but given the form of Sanchez it’s now looking like the right choice was made.

Other than the red card against Manchester United, Sanchez has had a brilliant start to the season and has clearly improved.

However, that hasn’t stopped reports linking Chelsea with Maignan once again, but Romano has now provided an update.

He took to X.com and said:

“No fresh talks took place between Chelsea and Mike Maignan over potential free transfer, despite recent reports.

“#CFC remain happy with Robert Sánchez + long term development plan also with talented GK Mike Penders.”

Maignan is out of contract at the end of the season and can sign a pre-agreement with a club in January, or he can enter free agency and see what options he has next summer.

Filip Jorgensen considering Chelsea exit

Whilst the Blues are happy with Sanchez, Jorgensen doesn’t appear to be enjoying his current predicament at Stamford Bridge.

Jorgensen is thought to be considering his future at Stamford Bridge, as he wants more playing time ahead of the World Cup, but the final decision is down to Chelsea as a replacement would be needed, which isn’t easy in January.
