Liverpool will be hoping to put its recent run of awful form firmly behind it as it looks to pick up back-to-back victories for the first time since September against Sunderland.
Arne Slot eased some of the pressure that had been mounting on his position with a much-needed win over West Ham at the weekend, and the Reds can put themselves firmly back in the race for the top four with another three points later.
That is easier said than done though, especially against a Sunderland side that has been defying expectations so far this season, with the Black Cats sitting sixth ahead of kick-off, and a point ahead of the Reds.

Early team news
Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong have returned to training ahead of today's game, although Slot has suggested neither will be in contention to face Sunderland. The former could make his return against Leeds at the weekend instead.
Giovanni Leoni is the only other senior player out for the Reds, with all eyes on Mohamed Salah after he was left on the bench against West Ham.
As for the visitors, Sunderland could be without four players, with Aji Alese and Habib Diarra looking set to miss out again, having both undergone surgery on their respective shoulder and groin problems.
Dennis Cirkin and Leo Hjelde could be in contention to return to the first-team picture soon though. The pair played for Sunderland’s U21s against Sporting CP last week, having both been laid off with injury.
