London derbies continue for Premier League leaders Arsenal as they host Brentford at the Emirates on Wednesday. Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Chelsea last weekend, while Brentford boosted their European hopes with a 3-1 home win over Burnley.
Although a point at Chelsea is usually a good result, Arsenal’s recent draw felt like a missed opportunity for a side showing signs of fatigue after a demanding run of fixtures. Despite this, the Gunners maintain a five-point lead at the top and have won nine of their ten home games this season, including the last seven in a row. Their unbeaten streak now stands at 17 matches, and they have conceded just two home league goals all season.
Brentford, meanwhile, have struggled away from home, losing five of six Premier League road games under Keith Andrews. However, their strong home form keeps them in the hunt for a European spot, with Igor Thiago making history by reaching 10 league goals in just 13 games. Still, the Bees have not kept a clean sheet in five matches and have only one shutout away from home this season.
History also favours Arsenal, who are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League meetings with Brentford and have not lost at home to the Bees in the league since 1938.
