Liverpool have a historically impressive record against Sunderland, but it won’t be on Arne Slot‘s mind as he faces his former Feyenoord captain.
Slot only left Feyenoord last summer, but he has twice already come up against his ex-skipper, Lutsharel Geertruida.
Last season, the left-back was playing for RB Leipzig when they lost 1-0 at Anfield and he now visits again, having joined Sunderland on loan in the summer.

Liverpool haven’t played against Sunderland for nine years, so their record against the Black Cats isn’t particularly relevant. It is, however, quite impressive.
Liverpool have only lost one of their last 31 Anfield meetings with Sunderland, that loss coming to a Gary Rowell goal in 1983.
In the ensuing 18 encounters on Merseyside, nine have ended in draws.
Since 1966/67, on only two occasions in the last 26 clashes have Sunderland found the net twice in a game at Anfield, drawing 2-2 in 2010 and again in 2016.

Sunderland have scored five first-half goals this season going into this round of fixtures, the joint-lowest in the division along with Brighton and Wolves. Liverpool have six.
Regis Le Bris’ side have not kept a clean sheet in the last five. They are one of only three teams not to have conceded more than twice in a Premier League game this season, along with Arsenal and Man City.
They have lost only one of the last six matches, that being the 1-0 loss at Fulham in their last away fixture.
Last Saturday, they came from two goals down to win for the first time ever in the Premier League, beating Bournemouth 3-2 at the Stadium of Light.
Their away league matches this season have seen the fewest goals scored of any side’s games on the road in the division – nine in total (three for Sunderland and six against).
