Marc Cucurella has opened up on his failed move to Manchester City, and admitted he wanted to join Pep Guardiola’s side before his eventual move to Chelsea.
The Spaniard has established himself as not only one of the best left backs in the league, but also one of the best in the world.
Cucurella is a key player for Chelsea, and is arguably one of their most important, but things could have been very different.
Marc Cucurella opens up on failed Manchester City move
Cucurella had attracted interest from City following his brilliant form for Brighton, and they were keen to bring him to The Etihad.
However, City weren’t prepared to meet Brighton’s financial demands, and Chelsea swooped in and signed the Spain international in a deal thought to be worth £63m.

Cucurella struggled in his first season, and almost joined Manchester United on loan in the summer of 2023, and has now established himself at Chelsea, but has admitted he was keen to join City.
“They [Man City] were on fire and were one of the best teams in the world, I absolutely wanted to go,” he said as quoted by El Desmarque.
“When they come like they did, and when Guardiola asks you to, you go on your knees if necessary.
“But the clubs couldn’t reach an agreement. Brighton had demands that were out of the market, and it couldn’t be done.”
Chelsea star has signed improved deal
City’s loss is very much Chelsea’s gain, and the turnaround for Cucurella at Stamford Bridge has been nothing short of remarkable.
