Liverpool are interested in Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck ahead of the January transfer window and beyond.

DaveOCKOP already exclusively revealed that Liverpool has a serious interest in Schlotterbeck.

The 26-year-old German international has become a cornerstone of Dortmund’s backline since his €25 million move from SC Freiburg in 2022, establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s premier left-sided center-backs.

With Schlotterbeck’s current deal set to expire in 2027, BVB now faces a familiar dilemma: cash in while they can or risk losing their defensive leader for nothing in 18 months

Liverpool aren’t the only club monitoring developments. Barcelona have reportedly made signing a left-footed center-back a priority, with manager Hansi Flick – who gave Schlotterbeck his Germany debut -keen to reunite with the defender.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

And it seems that Schlotterbeck could indeed make the move soon.

That’s because BILD’s Henning Feidt has come out with a bold statement, asserting that the German international will now not renew at Borussia Dortmund:

“Today Nico Schlotterbeck is 26 years old. There is more and more evidence that it will be his (for the time being) last birthday at Borussia Dortmund,” he wrote.

“For months, the club has been fighting to extend the contract with the defensive boss early beyond 2027 and has long since made an official offer. But it can’t go any further. And that’s why I’m committed: Schlotterbeck will not extend his contract at BVB!”

Schlotterbeck’s current contract at Dortmund runs until 2027.

It has been reported that Borussia Dortmund have tabled their first contract extension offer, proposing a deal until 2030 with a significant salary increase from €2.5 million to at least €8 million annually.

However, the player is hesitant to commit to new terms, suggesting he is keen on a move away.

With Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation also unresolved and Joe Gomez linked with potential exits, Liverpool’s defensive planning has taken on added urgency.

The club’s inability to strengthen at the back during the summer, combined with Leoni’s injury setback, has created a pressing need for January reinforcements or summer additions.
