Fabrizio Romano Tells Chelsea To "Forget" About January Transfer Raid On Arsenal

Arsenal have no intention of selling rumoured Chelsea transfer target Myles Lewis-Skelly, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

There has been speculation that the Blues are keen on snapping up the teenager, but speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said:

“Today in England, rumours about Chelsea considering a permanent transfer proposal for Myles Lewis-Skelly. Forget about that. Lewis-Skelly is Arsenal. Arsenal are very happy with Lewis-Skelly, and they are not considering to part ways. Lewis-Skelly is seen as a really, really, really important part of the squad – super appreciated by Arsenal.”

“I don’t know whether these rumours are always coming from constantly about Lewis-Skelly, but he’s part of the project. He’s not leaving in January. Arsenal want to keep the player and trust the player. That’s the message I am getting today from both, player side and club’s side. So when what happens in the next years, I don’t know, but, as of today, I can guarantee, 100%, that all these stories are not true.”

Chelsea only signed a left-back recently

While Lewis-Skelly is a highly-rated young player, the Blues don’t really have room for him in the squad currently anyway. Jorrel Hato was signed from Ajax for £35.5m (plus add-ons) at the start of August.

He is the same age as Lewis-Skelly, and he is Marc Cucurella’s understudy. For that reason, you wouldn’t have thought that adding another left-back would be a priority for the recruitment team.

Will Chelsea make any bids in January?

There has been some talk of the Blues bringing in another centre-back, with Nottingham Forest’s Murillo said to be the leading candidate. The Brazilian may cost upwards of £70m so that move would be difficult to secure.

A goalkeeper may also be required if Filip Jorgensen manages to force his way out. The Denmark international is reportedly keen on getting more first-team football, having been reduced to full-time backup this season. He was the club’s Conference League and domestic cup keeper last campaign.
