David Moyes has done something Sean Dyche, Frank Lampard and Rafa Benitez never managed at…

Everton boss David Moyes has been in fine form ever since his appointment as boss in January.

Everton had massively struggled in the years preceding David Moyes’ appointment, with relegation battles and points deductions threatening to end their ever-present Premier League status.

However, three wins from the past four have seen Everton climb the table, and Moyes has now won the joint-most away games with Arsenal in the Premier League since coming to the helm in January.

But, unlike his predecessors Sean Dyche, Frank Lampard and Rafa Benitez, Moyes has achieved 20 points or more before the turn of the New Year – something Everton fans haven’t enjoyed since the 2020-21 campaign.

Everton have hit the 21-point mark before Christmas in superb David Moyes achievement

Looking back at each season that Everton had reached 21 points over the past five seasons, including the current campaign, it makes for positive reading.

The 2021-22 campaign only saw Everton reach 21 points on February 12th, in a season that saw Frank Lampard achieve survival on the penultimate day of the season.

The 2022-23 campaign was even worse. 21 points was only reached with a 1-0 win over Leeds on February 18th, and Everton struggled their way to safety on the final day of the season in one of Goodison Park’s tensest moments.

Wow, who knew Everton’s away record was so good!?👏🏻

“Since I have come back, only Arsenal have won more games than us (away). They (the fans) have been pretty happy.”

The following campaign was slightly skewed, given Everton had received a 10-point deduction. But it was only a draw against Brighton on February 24th finally saw them hit 21 points, before their appeal saw the deduction reduced to just six points, hoisting them to 25.

And, in the 2024-25 campaign, Everton managed to break the February mould via a 1-0 win at Brighton on January 25th. It was the second positive result in a nine-game unbeaten streak which dragged them well away from any relegation woes.

This season, fans have barely got started on their advent calendars before 21 points has been hit after the 1-0 win at Bournemouth on Tuesday night, and it’s positive to see change going forward.

Everton fans will have an instinctively gloomy nature about them as a result of the past few years.

However, there is now real confidence that the club would even qualify for European football should their current run of form continue.

The Toffees haven’t had continental football since their dismal Europa League campaign in 2017, where they were nowhere near good enough to qualify for the knockout stages.

But, should Moyes keep their form up, a place on some form of European stage could be massively beneficial to their future. Everton currently sit just three points outside of the Champions League spaces ahead of Wednesday’s fixtures and they’ll be keeping a keen eye on results forming around them.
