December 3 – Erling Haaland has spent just two and a half years in the Premier League football, yet on Tuesday night he reached 100 Premier League goals in only 111 games with a striker’s finish away to Fulham, smashing Alan Shearer’s long-standing benchmark of 124 matches in the process.
Post match, the 25-year-old Norwegian didn’t dwell on the numbers: “I don’t want to say the words, but when you’re a striker for Man City, you should be delivering great numbers,” he told Sky Sports. “That’s my job. People should criticise me if I don’t.”
This latest milestone continues a pattern. Haaland has bulldozed past some hall-of-famers on the way to the century: Thierry Henry (141 games), Sergio Agüero (147) and Mohamed Salah (162) all needed far longer to reach 100.
The ultimate Premier League goal scoring record – Shearer’s 260 – still sits some distance away, but the trajectory, combined with his nine-year deal at Man City, must have the former Newcastle striker sweating a little.
Haaland’s scoring arcs reflect the brute efficiency of his time in England. His debut season returned a record-breaking 36 league goals – a tally which he followed with 27, winning Golden Boots in both campaigns. He added 22 last season and already has 15 in 14 appearances this time around.
Wolves were singled out as his favourite opponent, having conceded 10 times to him in six meetings, West Ham nine, Manchester United eight.
Fulham, too, have been reliable suppliers of milestones – Tuesday’s strike was his seventh in as many games against the Cottagers. Haaland has scored against every Premier League side he has faced – only newly promoted Sunderland remain unchecked, though there are two fixtures this month to complete the set.
“It’s huge and I’m really proud,” he said. “The 100 club is a nice thing to be in.”
